The exciting sights, smells and visual stimulation that is Hong Kong. What people consider the eyesore of sign pollution, I found to be magnificent and beautiful (perhaps because I didn't know what any of the signs said). Colors jump out at you constantly. ***It is important to note that I am NOT currently in Hong Kong.
Both times I visited Hong Kong I was travelling solo. One question I get asked all of the time is, "Do you prefer to travel alone or with someone?". Both styles have their benefits, but most of my travels I have done solo. An unintimidating stature, curious friendly eyes and an open smile invites strangers to talk to you. I recently came across a quote, in a great book a friend gave to me, that explains it beautifully:
"Being alone again gave me a social freedom. I didn't have a travel partner, much less a clique. When you're sitting alone on a porch with a beer, a book and a friendly face, almost anyone will talk to you". Extracted from TO SHAKE THE SLEEPING SELF by Jedidiah Jenkins
